YOUTH offending work in Barnsley is better than the national average, an inspection report reveals.
Ass Ch Insp Alan MacDonald said the inspection had judged work in Barnsley to be of a ‘sufficiently high level of quality’.
He said: “We judged that the safeguarding aspects of the work were done well enough 74 per cent of the time.
“With the public protection aspects, work to keep each individual’s risk of harm to others was done well enough 70 per cent of the time, and the work to make each individual less likely to offend was done well enough 71 per cent of the time.â€
The England and Wales averages for those same three scores were all between 62 and 69 per cent. Ass Ch Insp MacDonald added: “We also found that the good standard of work we reported, following our last inspection in 2006, had been maintained. “We consider this an encouraging set of findings and that the prospects for the future are positive.â€
