A ROYSTON lad has made it into the Sheffield Wednesday history books.

Striker Matt Bowman became the youngest ever outfield player for the Owls when he made his first team debut at the age of 16 and 205 days. He beat Mark Platts' previous record by 58 days.

Matt took to the pitch last Tuesday as a second-half substitute for the Owls in their 4-1 Carling Cup defeat to Wrexham.

Just two days later Matt, of Firham Close, collected his GCSE results from Royston High School and walked away with nine A to C passes.

However, his future was already secured as a first-year academy player having signed professional papers for the club in January.
