New manager Keith Hill walked the walk – with a laid-back Liam Gallagher-esque swagger. The almost nonchalant gum-chewing was an added cool touch. And he followed that up by talking the talk, explaining his vision for Barnsley with eagerness, passion and no little wit.
I for one hope that the Oakwell Club's supporters now back him and his assistant Dave Flitcroft to the hilt. Stronger Together? Well, it just may well be in this case.
If you haven't renewed your season tickets, do so now. For I think the Reds could just have a gem of a management team on their hands.
Both men came across with real character and conviction during the press conference to announce their arrival. Former Rochdale hero Hill appears to have the big-hearted personality, easy banter and a lovely Lancastrian manner that could go down just as well this side of the Pennines.
His man-management of the media was first class – and he if can replicate that honest, 'say it like it is' attitude with the Barnsley supporters and the players under his command then he'll be laughing. And it will certainly be smiles better down at Oakwell!
Flitcroft could well emerge as the 'Mr Motivator of the pair, the one who ensures the squad do the hard yards on the training pitch, making sure they are fully prepared for the Championship battles ahead.
The pair bounce off each other. Yes, they are great mates but they are genuine football people too. And they will need to know their stuff.
Because the current Reds squad looks pretty thin at the moment – and with other clubs circling, intent on prizing away skipper Jason Shackell – Hill has a tough job on his hands in getting a team together capable of holding their own once again in the second tier of English football.
But Hill reckons he's up to the task.
And I believe him. I like the cut of his jib!
He will need to work fast in the transfer market – and hopefully unearth one or two transfer gems. Keeping Shackell might prove tough though.
But rather than looking ahead to next term with trepidation (and that's how I felt just last week when Hill appeared to rule himself out of the running and Barnsley were being linked with the likes of Russell Slade), I am now full of anticipation. Bring it on!
Hill told me: "We are looking forward to the future here at Barnsley with great excitement."
As are the rest of us Keith.
Good luck.
