Detective are investigating whether an 11-month-old tot died after being knocked over by a pet dog.
Police have been called in to establish how the boy, who lived in Hoyland Common, died. A man, 27, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been bailed while the investigation continues.
The Chronicle understands one theory detectives are looking into is whether the boy, who has not been named, tumbled and banged his head after being bumped into by a dog.
There is no suggestion he was attacked or bitten by the animal.
