A BARNSLEY singer-songwriter is on the rise and is set for an exciting new chapter after teaming up with Grammy award-winning music producer Eliot Kennedy.

Worsbrough woman Frida, whose real name is Brooke Haigh, is already building up a loyal fanbase across the town by performing at numerous live music venues.

The 25-year-old has teamed up with Ivor Novello-winning Eliot Kennedy, who himself has had an incredible career - producing hit after hit.

He’s worked with some of the biggest stars in the music world such as The Spice Girls, Gary Barlow and Celine Dion - and he’s now collaborating with Frida for her latest song for an upcoming film later this year, set in Yorkshire.

Eliot said: “I met Frida through a really good friend and was immediately taken by her personality.

“She is a classic northern girl, no holds barred and proud of it.

“She is truly funny and her personality is incredibly contagious.”

Frida says her family have always been her biggest inspiration and that her passion for songwriting began at a young age.

She said: “I get my biggest thrill from being on stage.

“The people of Barnsley are really supportive, and I absolutely adore singing live and entertaining - especially in my home town.

“My mum and dad have always supported me, as did my late nannan Shirley.

“She was a big part of my life and introduced me to songs from some of the greats including Frank Sinatra, Engelbert Humperdink and Tony Bennett.

“Both my auntie and uncle are also performers, so I’ve been surrounded by music since I was a little girl.”

It was a promise Frida made to her late grandma that inspired her artist name.

“My grandma Frida made me promise, just before she passed away, to follow my dream of being a songwriter and performer, so I’m making sure I appreciate and enjoy every moment of this journey,” she added.

Frida and Eliot have so far produced five original songs together with more in the pipeline, including a song they are co-writing for the film Nowt But Speechless, a comedy set in Yorkshire and for which Eliot is writing the musical score.

Frida added: “I’m honoured to be working with Eliot and I’m really pleased with the tracks we’ve recorded.

“My songs are so personal to me so it’s been amazing to watch and hear him bring them to life in the studio.”

Same Time Tomorrow, written by Frida and produced by Eliot, is available on all streaming platforms from today.

Eliot added: “What I love about Frida is that, musically, she is influenced by country, pop, dance, rock and everything in between so my focus has just been to let her express herself, rather than trying to find a specific sound.

“That’s working really well.

“Her songwriting just gets better and I’m so excited to see where this leads.

“She is certainly one to watch.”

Both Frida and Eliot will be performing at WentFest on Saturday June 14 at Hooton Lodge Farm. Tickets are available from www.wentfest.com.
