Two names from nightlife in the past are to be revived in Shambles Street.
The Vault, formerly Oxygen, will be called Rebecca's and Soul Bar, which is above it, will be named The Londoner by their new owners Dave Clayton, 50, and Craig Savage, 47.
Rebecca's was a nightclub which operated from 1976 to 1987 in a part of what is now a bingo hall near Jumble Lane crossing. Before that, it was a cabaret venue called Club Bah Bah. The Londoner, off Lamb Lane, Monk Bretton, closed in the early 1980s.
Mr Clayton said: "Both of us spent a lot of time and money in Rebecca's. When we have mentioned to people we were thinking of calling one of the bars Rebecca's, the faces of those who recall it fondly have lit up. We chose The Londoner because Craig grew up in Monk Bretton."
The name changes are being introduced at the end of April because of confusion between Soul Bar and Soul Lounge, an unconnected bar further up Shambles Street.
During the day, it is hoped to serve dishes with connections with the capital such as pie and mash and bangers and mash in The Londoner and to run things like exercise classes.
