ALMOST 60 fearless fundraisers completed a 100-foot abseil from the top of the Barnsley College building last weekend - raising more than £15,000 in the process.

Those who visited the town centre on Saturday would have seen a sea of orange down the college’s Old Mill Lane campus.

More than £15,000 has been raised to date - with donations and sponsorship still being counted up - which will go towards the care the hospice provide.

Hannah Clarkson, challenge events manager at the hospice, said: “Anyone familiar with the college building can understand that this abseil was no mean feat, and we’re so grateful to everyone who signed up and got involved.

“This was a new event for the hospice calendar and what a day it was, with so many people coming out to watch and cheer on loved ones.

“While there may have been some nerves on the way up, there was plenty of laughter on the way down.

“We’re so proud that all our fundraisers completed their abseil and helped make a difference to the hospice.”

Kelly Rinaldi, principal of Barnsley Sixth Form College, added: “Taking part in the abseil was humbling, exciting and a little bit terrifying.

“Standing 100 feet above the town, I felt incredibly proud to be part of such a meaningful event.

“It was a real privilege to support Barnsley Hospice in this way, and to see our college building used as a platform - quite literally - for such an important cause.”
