BARNSLEY’S dedicated Egyptology Society are welcoming a leading expert to the town next month
On Saturday June 7, author and broadcaster Sofia Aziz will be at the Hapy Egpytology Society’s event at the Cooper Gallery.
The focus of her lecture will be on the ancient Egpytians’ attitude to the brain.
A spokesperson from the society said: “The ancient Egyptians saw the heart, not the brain, as the seat of the mind (indeed the hieroglyph for the heart and mind are the same) and during the mummification process the brain was removed in a rather macabre process, unless you were a woman, and then your brain was left in! I don’t know why perhaps our lecturer will be able to enlighten us.”
The Hapy Society was formed almost six years ago with the encouragement of Barnsley’s own leading Egyptologist Professor Joann Fletcher.
The lectures is open to the public and will start at 4.15pm.
