THE BARNSLEY secondary schools finals day was played at Oakwell for the first time in 16 years.

There were six finals which gave 190 boys and girls the opportunity to showcase their skills on the main pitch. Darton, Dearne, Horizon, Kirk Balk, Penistone and Shafton all had representation, with both Horizon and Penistone having four sides each.

Horizon under 12s boys beat Dearne team 6-0 and Penistone under 13s boys defeated Horizon 4-1. Horizon under 13s girls edged Penistone on penalties while the under 15 final between the two went the other way by a 2-1 scoreline.

Darton under 14s boys won 2-1 over Shafton and Penistone under 15s boys beat Kirk Balk 7-1.

One of the organisers Ryan Copley said: “It is hoped that this can be an annual event for the schools, club and town to be proud of. It was a very special day for players, family and friends.

“Connor Hourihane showed his support on the day, meeting with players and passing on advice to them. On behalf of Barnsley Schools we would like to thank Barnsley Football Club for making some magical memories for young people from the town.”
