NEW parking restrictions are set to be implemented in Worsbrough thanks to the work of two local councillors.

Couns Roy Bowser and John Clarke have been campaigning for better road safety in their ward following concerns from residents.

The new restrictions, which will be placed at the junction of Vernon Road and Haverlands Lane, will include double yellow lines extending for 23 metres from the junction to the first property line, on both sides of the road.

They say that a major issue has been that motorists continue to park on both sides of the carriageway on Haverlands Lane, which is forcing motorists into the opposing carriageway to manoeuvre past parked vehicles, creating the potential for vehicle conflict with oncoming traffic.

On occasion, access through has been obstructed completely.

Additionally, vehicles parked on the footways result in obstructions to pedestrians. While vehicles parked on Vernon Road are obstructing sightlines for drivers exiting the Haverlands Lane junction.

Coun Bowser told the Chronicle: “The proposal is regarded as the best and most appropriate option to counter and deter the inconsiderate, obstructive and illegal parking.

“The proposed restrictions will maintain a free flow of traffic, visibility and improve overall road safety for children and parents.”
