BARNSLEY Hospital is set to receive more than £1.1m in funding to improve facilities, it has been revealed.

Patients and pupils across England, including in Barnsley, are set to benefit from nearly £1.2bn worth of essential maintenance fixes being rolled out at hospitals and schools.

Over 400 hospitals, mental health units, and ambulance sites will receive £750m to tackle long-term problems such as leaky pipes, poor ventilation, and electrical issues.

This will help prevent thousands of cancelled operations and appointments.

The projects include works at Barnsley Hospital, which is set to receive £1.164m and will help patients benefit from better services and facilities.

Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis told the Chronicle: “I’m very pleased to see this investment coming to Barnsley Hospital.

“The £1.16m will go a long way in improving facilities and making sure patients and staff aren’t facing unnecessary disruptions.

“It’s good to see Barnsley getting its fair share as part of the government’s promise to back public services and support communities like ours.”
