OLIVER Rowland extended his lead in the Formula E championship by a point in Jakarta, Indonesia and could now be a win away from the title.
The 31-year-old from Penistone picked up just one point for finishing tenth but many of the chasing pack also faltered.
He is now 69 points clear at the top after 12 of 16 races this season, with 28 the maximum available for each race.
The season now concludes with double-headers in Berlin on July 12/13 then two weeks later in London.
His team Nissan are second in the team standings and top of the manufacturers.
In Jakarta, Rowland qualified 17th in wet conditions then made his way up to seventh, despite speed reductions due to crashes during his six-minute ‘attack mode’ when his car had extra power.
He still crossed the line in seventh but was deducted five seconds for causing a collision so dropped back to tenth.
Rowland said: “We executed a very good race after a disappointing qualifying, managing to gain ten places before the penalty demoted us to tenth.
“I was still able to extend my lead in the drivers’ championship by a point, which could still be very important at the end of the season.
“But we want more than that as we’ve got close battles in the teams’ and manufacturers’ standings.
“We need to understand what went wrong and analyse why we were so poor in qualifying.
“I’m confident that we can do that and be ready to come back fighting at the front in Berlin.”
