OLIVER Rowland could clinch the Formula E title this weekend in Berlin.
The 31-year-old from Penistone is 69 points clear at the top of the standings in the global electric car series after 12 of the 16 races.
With 29 points the maximum available from each race, he only needs to maintain that lead across the two races in Germany on Saturday and Sunday to take the title ahead of the final two races in London at the end of the month.
A victory in the first race in Berlin would almost certainly hand him the trophy for the first time in his career.
Rowland has led for most of the season.
Having been disqualified when leading the opening race in Brazil, he then won four of the next eight – finishing second in three others – and at one stage led by 86 points.
That lead has been reduced slightly over the last three races as he finished fifth and 13th in Shanghai then tenth in Jakarta.
He would have finished higher in the last race in Indonesia had he not been deduced five seconds for his part in a collision, a decision which he unsuccessful appealed.
His team Nissan are also in contention for the team and manufacturers championships going into the final four races of the season.
