THE LATEST Donfaster 5k incorporated the Yorkshire Veterans Athletics Association 5k Championships.
Barnsley AC’s Wayne Singleton took bronze in the over40 men’s category.
He set a PB of 16-24 which gave him fifth overall and first over40 man in the race.
Rod Scholes finished as second over75 man in a time of 28-08.
Lee Yoxall set a PB of 19-22 while Ash Abrahams finished in 19-05.
Penistone’s Gareth Irvine produced a season’s best performance. He clocked 19-19 to finish 55th overall. His result also placed him among the top finishers in the men’s over40 category.
Barnsley Harriers Rich Spooner and Georgi Newton finished 22nd and 144th respectively
Three Barnsley Harriers took on the Matlock Skyline 22-mile circular route, with 1,000 metres of ascent, following the high ground around Matlock and Darley Dale. Kelly Ford was the first back in 32nd position (4-41) with husband and wife team John and Jayne Galloway finishing in 5-52.
At the Coal Aston Gala Race, Penistone’s Peter Beever finished in 42-13 while Kelvin Bowskill followed in 44-21, earning second place in the men’s over70 category.
Six Penistone runners took on the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon – an iconic two-day event held in the Lake District.
Competitors must carry all their gear, including tents and cooking equipment, as they navigate mountainous terrain between overnight camps.
On the Fairfield course, Tom Fryers and James Fryers finished eighth overall, while Steve Sanders and Damian Kilpin placed 25th on the same route.
On the Carrick Fell course, Jon Hallam was 30th while Sarah Jones-Morris was 76th on the Harter Fell course.
The Thurlstone Chase took place last Thursday. It is a 4.2-mile fell race with more than 500 feet of climbing and a fast finish.
Barnsley AC’s Phil Montgomery was just a few seconds away from retaining the title which he had won for the previous three years, finishing second in a course PB of 25-06. Callum Hobson finished 16th in a time of 28-36.
There were 49 Penistone runners involved. Suzanne McGill was second female overall in 30-26, while Rachael Mayston followed closely to claim third female overall in 30-58.
Susie Braddock won the women’s over60 category in 36-46, and Barbara Haigh was first over70 in 48-04.
James Mumford led the club home with a fifth-place overall finish and took first place in the men’s over40 age category in 27-06. Ian Neville claimed top honours in the men’s over60 category with 29-59, and Stuart Woodhead won the over70 category in 38-46.
At the Maltby Memorial Race, Barnsley AC’s Chris McNicholas was first over60 man in 28-44 while Gail Colville finished as second woman with 29-28.
Gemma Thickett (31-14), Faye Lund (36-40) and Laura Mills (39-35) also completed the four-mile course.
Last week, at the Loxley Lash 5k, Penistone’s Rob Lees came 27th overall in a time of 18-39, earning him third place in the men’s over45 age category. Gareth Irvine ran 19-51, finishing 49th overall and eighth over45 man.
Barnsley AC’s Dave Allemby improved his time by six seconds from May, running 27-22.
