A lad was left with a fractured leg after being knocked over on Grange Lane.
The 11-year-old was struck by a silver BMW 320 at about 7.20pm on Tuesday, police said.
A force spokesman said he suffered serious injuries to his leg and head and was taken to Barnsley Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.
The BMW was being driven by a woman, 23, of Barnsley. Officers said the collision, near the junction with Bank Street, occurred when the boy stepped from the pavement. Police are appealing for witnesses.
Investigations are ongoing.
