BARNSLEY fans will have their final two chances to see their side in the flesh during pre-season in the next few days, as they travel up to North Yorkshire twice.

The Reds are due to visit League Two Harrogate Town on Saturday from 3pm and National League York City on Tuesday from 7pm.

So far, they have won 3-0 at Emley AFC, drawn 1-1 at Worksop Town then lost at Buxton with a very young side before drawing 1-1 with Scottish giants Rangers behind-closed-doors on Saturday – Max Watters netting an equaliser at St George’s Park.

Harrogate – who finished 18th in League Two last season – have the longest-serving manager in English football in Simon Weaver who has been at the club since 2009.

The two clubs have never met in a competitive fixture but Barnsley did visit Wetherby Road in 2022 for a friendly and drew 2-2.

Three days later, Barnsley will make their first ever trip to York’s new ground, the York Community Stadium which opened in 2021.

The two clubs have met 30 times competitively, with Barnsley winning 20, including the last eight, drawing eight and losing just two.

Their last friendly meeting was in 2018 at York’s old ground Bootham Crescent, where the Reds came from behind to win 7-1.

They finished second in the National League last season with 96 points but lost in the play-offs to Oldham Athletic.

After the Harrogate game, the Reds are due to go to Wales for a pre-season training camp including a behind-closed-doors game on the final weekend of July.

They will then return to Oakwell for the final week of pre-season ahead of their opening league game at Plymouth Argyle on August 2.
