A WORSBROUGH man who dumped bags of waste at the side of a local church has been fined for fly-tipping and operating without a waste carrier licence.
In September 2024, neighbourhood wardens received a report of dumped waste at the side of St Thomas’ Church on Bank End Road.
Enquiries led to Harvey Bratby, 24, of Monkspring, Worsbrough, who admitted fly-tipping and operating without a carriers’ licence.
After failing to appear at court, Bratby was arrested and detained for several hours in police cells before pleading guilty to the offences at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court.
He was sentenced to a community order for 12 months with the condition of completing 150 hours’ unpaid work in the community, as well as a fine of £514.
Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “This prosecution continues our hard line against fly-tipping across the borough, and we will prosecute anyone who we find responsible for blighting our borough.
“I welcome the sentence that has been handed down to Mr Bratby to show that we won’t tolerate this behaviour within Barnsley.
“I’d like to thank our wardens, the Safer Communities team and our litigation team for their help and hard work in these prosecutions.”
