BARNSLEY College secured £205,000 in funding to support international study and work placements for up to 100 students.

The Turing Scheme, previously known as the Erasmus+ programme, supports international placements for students in further, higher, and school education, and will now allow Barnsley College students to travel to a range of global destinations, gaining valuable skills and cultural understanding that enhance their future career prospects.

Principal David Akeroyd said: “This funding opens the door for our students to experience the world, gain new perspectives, and build the skills that employers value.

“We’re proud to offer this opportunity and look forward to seeing the impact it will make on our students’ lives.”

Muz Mumtaz, director of external funding, projects and insight, added: “Securing the full Turing Scheme allocation reflects our strategic, evidence-based approach focused on student impact.

“Our project embeds progression, employability, and inclusion - delivering sector-relevant international experiences that align closely with the scheme’s goals.

“This funding enables us to expand access to global opportunities, particularly for underrepresented groups, and ensures placements provide tangible value for both learners and the regional economy.

“It’s a major step forward in our mission to support transformative global mobility opportunities and support student success.”
