Bry Bradshaw, ten, of Harold Avenue, has been put forward for the Sporting Achievement and Young Superstar awards at the glitzy November ceremony.
The agile youngster has been nominated by mum Rachel who thinks her young son is deserving of the two accolades.
She said Bry was 'very hyperactive' from a young age and the family believed it was attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
"With this in mind, routine and exercise was vital," she said. It led to Rachel enrolling him into a gymnastics club at the age of five, and by the time he was six-year-old Bry was in the elite class with teenagers.
"He tried out for Wakefield gym club tumblers and has never looked back.
"He trains three hours a day, five days a week most weeks, and he has missed birthday parties and other activities because he is so committed to his training."
Bry qualified at the British championships last year at the tender age of nine and was placed as being the fourth best in Britain.
In the last few weeks he has qualified again for the British championships, this time gaining silver and gold, and has also qualified for the British training camp.
"This year he will be competing again at the British championships in July and is the only Barnsley boy to get through.
"He works very hard at his tumbling and has achieved so much, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves for his hard work and we don't have much family to be proud of him.
"We want Barnsley to be proud of him and support him as he is supporting Barnsley when he goes.
"He never complains about missing out and always plays down his achievements but we feel Barnsley should be supporting him and showing him they are also proud of this ten-year-old who is destined to go on to further things.
"Next year he will also be looking at the world championships and he already trains very hard with the British coaches and we are extremely proud of him, he is an up-and-coming sporting star."
