NEW proposals have been put forward to introduce a ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction on a Darfield street following concerns from bus drivers.
The plans to introduce the restriction on the corner of Bly Road and Morrison Road are currently in the consultation stage.
It comes following concerns raised over ‘illegal parking’ in the area.
A report states: “The South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) has reported that over recent months that access and bus manoeuvres have become more frequently obstructed by inconsiderate and illegal parking at the junction of Bly Road and Morrison Road, Darfield.
“Both Bly Road and Morrison Road are residential roads and following site visits and observation by the highways authority (traffic unit), it is clear that residents and visitors are parking on the junction radius’s and partly on the footways.
“This parking behaviour is severely restricting large vehicle manoeuvres through the junction.
“As well as buses, there is the potential for public service and large emergency service vehicles to be hindered or restricted from access/passage.”
An alternative proposal was put forward to install bollards or guardrails at the site.
However these options were not deemed as feasible by the council as other road users such as pram pushers, wheelchair uses and cyclists would be obstructed.
Coun Kevin Osborne, who represents the Darfield ward, said: “The current public consultation on introducing double yellow lines at the junction of Morrison Road and Bly Road is a vital step toward improving road safety and accessibility.
“I strongly encourage residents, businesses, and all interested parties to take part in the consultation and share their views. Your input is essential in shaping a safer, more accessible community for everyone.”
