The impact of cuts, town centre redevelopment and improving secondary schools will be among the topics scrutinised by Barnsley councillors.
Four scrutiny commissions meet to examine the impact of decisions taken locally and nationally.
The council has published its programme of meetings for the next year. Financial troubles and how the affect Barnsley communities feature heavily in the agendas.
A council spokeswoman said residents have the opportunity to get involved in the scrutiny process.
She said: "The commissions will be talking to experts and those who run services in order to find out the answers. But they are also keen to hear from Barnsley people about what they think the impact has been and how they think we could improve things."
Other issues up for debate include renewable energy, planning laws and protecting young people.
