HOYLAND Common Residents’ Group have been handing out school shirts and blouses to residents last week - and they’re hopeful they’ll be able to run the same events this week.

Last week, Coun Andy Wray was working with the group to hold sessions at Hoyland Common Working Men’s Club.

Theyhosted three sessions, with around 1,000 shirts and blouses on offer to parents and carers in need.

Coun Wray said there’s plans to hold the sessions again tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday.

This scheme is different to the £50 and £100 voucher programme Barnsley Council are running.

Coun Wray said: “It’s being run through the Hoyland Common Residents’ Group.

“We went to the warehouse and there was pallets full of school clothes so we filled a car up.

“I know the council are doing the vouchers but this was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

“We’ve had about 1,000 shirts and blouses to hand out.

“We can go back for more as well if we need to.

“We’ll be doing the same thing this week from 2.30pm to 4pm at Hoyland Common Working Men’s Group.

“They’ve been great as well as we’ve been allowed to use their space for free.”
