A NATIONAL charity stopped off at Barnsley Hospital this week.

Cavell can offer help like a hardship fund, domestic abuse fund, signposting and referral.

It also gives Cavell Star awards to those who go above and beyond.

A team from Cavell visited the hospital on Tuesday to meet local Cavell Star winners and have a look around wards.

There were surprise Cavell Star presentations to Maria Cooper, deputy associate director of nursing, and the vascular access team.

Representatives from the charity - who travelled to Barnsley from Redditch - also heard emotional stories from the hospital’s previous winners.

Among them was Angela Taylor, who earned the award for caring for a young child who passed away after fighting complex medical needs.

Sarah Moppett, director of nursing, midwifery and AHPS, said: “We have really enjoyed being partners with Cavell over the last year in terms of recognising nurses and midwives who have gone over and above, and in facilitating some of our staff to access hardship grants through the Cavell charity.”
