A joiner who co-founded a funeral service in Penistone has died aged 71.
Brian Green, of Cubley Rise Road, died at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, on Saturday surrounded by his family.
Brian was a well-known businessman in Penistone after setting up Dyson and Green Funeral and Joinery Services, on Barnsley Road, with Ken Dyson in 1970.
He was born in Millhouse Green and left Millhouse School aged 15 to serve a seven year apprenticeship as a joiner at Hepworth Iron Company.
He worked at the firm until 1968 when his first son Richard was born.
That same year, Brian started a joinery business and two years later he went into business with Ken Dyson to form the funeral and joinery service.
In 1972 his second son Nicholas was born and in the late 1970s he parted ways with Ken Dyson and started his own joinery business called Brian Green Joinery.
His two sons followed in their father's footsteps and joined the family business in the late 1980s.
The firm started manufacturing furniture, exporting to Germany and supplying 72 shops across the UK.
Brian remained at the business until his retirement in 2006 after which his sons took over.
His wife, Rosemary, who he married in 1966, said her husband was an active member of the Pengeston Masonic Lodge and he loved to travel.
"His passion was going on holiday," she said. "He loved going to France and we have been there every year for the last 30 years. He also liked going to America as well.
"He was a huge football fan and supported Barnsley FC and would go to the games every week.
"Brian's work was his hobby and he was such a good laugh and had a great sense of humour. Our son, Nick, summed him up perfectly when he said Brian lived life to the full and enjoyed every minute of it.".
