WELL they say that all good things must come to an end. And so, after much deliberation I have decided that my time for writing my column must finish.

I am sorry to tell you that this will be my last and final piece. After 14 years of sharing different elements of our families and my life, and of course picking on poor Pete, which some of you have noticed and show great sympathy for. I hope over that time you have enjoyed reading some serious and some funny moments and that although we have never met, you have got to know me and our family.

Can you remember the time that Pete got locked in the shed without his phone and had to wait until I came home from shopping?

Or the time I came home to find he had put so many lights up in the garden it looked like Gatwick airport, how when I go out walking, I’m forever skip searching (hence my nickname skip monster.) much to my delight but to everyone else’s horror.

I have shared my garden, plants and garden centre obsession with you all, and I have prompted you to go and have mammograms and even shared the name of mine with you all. Betty and Barbara will still be going for their photos taken, as long as possible. Oh, and by the way when we did the breast cancer coffee morning it was amazing just how many of you beautiful people turned out to support us.

And how many of you came to have a chat about the pieces I’d written.

I hope that I have encouraged you all to take stool samples when they are requested. I have also shared silly information such as Prince Albert having a piercing in his nether regions and Queen Victoria having a tattoo. (Whether it’s true or not) and no-one can say that I haven’t had my share of rants. No lights in Cudworth; Parking on double yellow lines and basically anything stupid that people tend to do. I have shared with you how my body thermostat reacts to the menopause. Hot sweats and fuzzy brain. Driving me up the wall – and it’s still ongoing.

I have loved the times that someone has approached me telling me how they have enjoyed a certain piece, or how they have made you laugh, or how they can relate to a certain topic. And although I may not be everyone’s cup of tea I feel as though I have had a fourteen-year friendship with all of you.

So even though I am not appearing in the Chronicle any more please do not hesitate to say hello or have a chat with me if you happen to meet me out on the street.

Even if it’s just to sympathise with Pete and ask how he’s doing. Well, I’m guessing you’re wondering what I’m going to be doing now. The truthful answer is… I don’t know!

But I’m sure I’ll find something, I still write plays, and sketches although I have retired from acting. Who knows I may open a garden centre, and Pete could run the coffee shop as he only seems to want to go out for a walk if he knows that there’s a café at the end of it.

Of course I had to finish with a dig at him, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t would it?

And so, my lovelies as the song goes in the Sound of Music. So long, Farewell It’s Time to Say Good-bye. Take good care of yourselves and be kind to not only others but to yourselves. This is Chrissy Dawson signing off. XX
