PENISTONE and Stocksbridge MP Marie Tidball has been named as the chair of the new Members Accessibility Group.
Ms Tidball was born with a congenital disability, which affects all four limbs.
She has foreshortened arms and legs, with one digit on each hand.
The Barnsley MP has been a strong voice and disability campaigner and has continued to work for those with disabilities since she was elected.
She said it was a privilege to have been named the chair of the new group.
Ms Tidball added: “It’s fantastic to be working with MPs from so many different parties, and with Parliament, to improve the accessibility of Parliament for disabled MPs, staff and visitors.
“Thank you to the Speaker and the Modernisation Committee, led by the brilliant Lucy Powell, for their work so far.
“Our work will feed into the Administration Committee, which oversees the running of the House.
“When I stood for election, I said I’d work hard to smash the glass ceiling for disabled representation in Westminster.
“Now, I’m proud to be working to ensure our voices are heard at every level of government.”
