JUDY Holling’s tireless commitment to volunteering and charity work has earned her another Proud of Barnsley nomination.

Judy, from Dodworth, has dedicated her life to helping others.

In her over 40-year fundraising career, Judy has achieved exceptional and memorable feats, showcasing her dedication to supporting her local community and beyond.

As a long-term volunteer and fundraiser, not only does Judy lend her time, but she has raised thousands of pounds for worthy causes across the years.

Judy officially opened Barnsley Hospice’s Retail Hub in 2020, in the wake of six of its shops being forced to close.

All proceeds from the hub’s sales go towards funding the Hospice, furthering Judy’s legendary status in fundraising.

Judy’s grandson, Connor Harry Bray, who has a condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, was selected by Dreamflight in 2022 for an all-expenses-paid trip to Florida.

Since then, Judy and her daughter, Anita, have held several fundraisers, hoping to give the same opportunity to other ill children.

Judy’s dedication to uplifting her local community extends to her volunteering commitments.

She helps to run two local groups, ‘Grabby Grannies’ held at the Heaven and Ale pub on Agnes Road and Top O’Doderth Bottom Club, in the Dodworth Miners’ Welfare.

Both clubs are aimed at OAPs, encouraging them to keep active and get social.

The clubs have collectively raised over £50,000 over the last few years for a range of causes, including £43,000 for Barnsley Hospice.

The clubs are known for their constant and creative ideas to raise money.

Previous fundraising efforts range from weekly events to auctioning off pork pies.

Last year, the groups combined forces to raise over £600 for the NHS charity ‘Ey Up’, which aids mental health and learning disability services in and beyond Barnsley.

Their extensive portfolio of charity fundraisers doesn’t end there; they have supported Weston Park, Betta Lives, BIADS, Macmillan, MND and more.

John Timmis, friend and nominator, said: “Both clubs have now been running for three years - with Judith being a key part of both clubs running smoothly and weekly without fault.

“She also volunteers at Barnsley Hospice with regular donations and fundraising activities going towards the Hospice - along with a number of other charities benefitting from her work and collections at these social events.

“Without Judy, these clubs would not run as they do.

“She continues to be as passionate as ever about making sure pensioners have a place to go to and enjoy themselves.”
