BOXING returns to Barnsley tonight and the promoter wants progress and victories from his two fighters.

Former British champion Josh Wale has a two locals on the seven-fight bill.

They are his younger brother Dempsey, who is searching for professional win number 14, and novice pro Jake Jon Cleary.

Dempsey is in with Mexican opposition in Benito Sanchez Garcia who has won 17 and lost ten.

Cleary, from Wombwell, is aiming for a third straight win and will take on the winless Lewis Varley from Birmingham.

Josh said: “Dempsey has had a few injuries and niggles and became a dad earlier this year.

“He hasn’t had a good run at things but he has got to get this win and then look at a big fight.

“Becoming a dad changes your whole outlook on life.

“You are not just doing it for yourself and you have to provide.

“Jake has got to keep improving.

“That is the main objective with him.

“He showed improvements in his second fight from his first and that is what boxing is all about in the early stages of a career.”

September is the month when boxing really gets busy.

Josh himself has already been to Ireland this month with one of his Mexican journeymen.

He now has a growing stable and expects it to swell to 17 by the end of this month.

That will likely include five overseas boxers.

They regularly take fights at short notice and help ensure ailing shows go ahead.

Wale will likely be driving them around the country every weekend until boxing winds down at the end of December.

“I had time with the kids in the six- week holidays but it’s back to business now,” added Josh.

“It’s going to be crazy busy from now until Christmas really.

“I think I have found my feet and have been working with Mexican fighters for a year now.

“Ramiro (Garcia Lopez) and Eric (Lopez) are really hard men and their reputation is growing.

“There’s never any nerves with them in the car before fights.

“Boxing is second nature to them.”
