WHAT started out as a fitness and social boost has become something much more for the members of Worsbrough Bridge Cricket Club’s ladies.
The team formed just after the pandemic with the intention of getting fitter and trying out a new sport.
Fast forward to the present and they have been crowned the best in Yorkshire.
It all began back in autumn 2021 when the club put on taster sessions and decided to join the indoor winter league.
Led by coaches Alan and Alex Littlewood the team got better and better... and better.
Alan said: “The summer of 2023 marked a significant milestone for the Worsbrough Ladies as they qualified for the Yorkshire County Finals at Headingley by finishing the season as Division One runners-up.
“They went on to defeat the best teams in the county, ultimately lifting the County Championship.
“This success was followed by an outstanding performance in the indoor season, where they clinched the Division One title, the play-off trophy and the Yorkshire County Indoor Championship, achieving a remarkable treble.
“None of these achievements would have been possible without the dedication of the hardworking volunteers and the club’s unwavering support in providing coaching and training venues.”
And the success keeps coming with another successful summer enjoyed by the Briggers.
Alan added: “The 2025 season has seen the ladies once again qualify for the Yorkshire County Finals, with another visit to Headingley.
“The team embodies the spirit of determination, teamwork and excellence.
“Their journey from a small group of enthusiastic beginners to county champions is a testament to their hard work and passion for the sport.
“It is a monumental achievement for a club of Worsbrough’s size.”
What is even more remarkable is the mix of ages at the club.
In a recent match their youngest player was 14 and their eldest was 60.
“Players have brought along friends and mums have got involved of our junior members and it’s gradually just grown and grown.
“From where we started to where we are now is amazing.”
