THE motorbiking community came together on Monday night to mark the passing of a popular Barnsley man.
Billy Deakin, 38, was in a collision with a Kia Rio at around 9pm last Monday on Park Road, near its junction with Day Street.
Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the dad-of-eight died at the scene.
A motorbike meet-up took place on Monday at The Silkstone, just a stone’s throw from where the collision occurred, while a fundraising page has already raised more than £5,000 for Billy’s family and his wife, Leanne.
A minute’s silence was also held at multiple grassroots football matches last weekend, where Billy was a familiar face on the sidelines.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed they are still asking for witnesses to the collision to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “We are now asking for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or may have seen the two vehicles prior to the collision, to come forward.
“We are also asking for anyone who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage to come forward, as it may help our investigation.
“You can report any information to us by calling 101 or through our website.
“Please quote incident number 1037 of September 8, 2025 when you get in touch.”
