STEVE Iveson’s tireless commitment to fundraising for BIADS hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Despite having lived in Boston, Massachusetts, for 25 years, Steve has always felt a strong connection to his hometown, Barnsley.

Over the years, Steve has completed awe-inspiring feats across the world in aid of his fundraising efforts.

One charity still holds a special place in Steve’s heart after they provided lifeline care to his mum after her dementia diagnosis.

In 2022, Steve’s family contacted BIADS for support and have since been welcomed into the BIADS ‘family’ themselves.

After the devastation of Barbara, Steve’s mum, passing away, he felt inspired to repay the charity for the care and support that they offered his parents.

Whilst working in music, Steve found that fitness and hiking were the natural antidote to a sedentary work life.

Steve wanted to challenge himself in his fundraising journey, setting out to complete notoriously difficult trails and peaks - and he did just that.

He first climbed Yorkshire’s three peaks then took on Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

Last year, he tackled Mount Kilimanjaro alongside his partner, Shiro.

The astonishing climb took the pair just over a week to complete.

This year, he tackled 270-plus miles Pennine Way alone, with only the wildlife for company.

Out of all of his will-testing fundraisers, Steve found this trek the most challenging.

He commented: “I had 13 days available for a challenge that is most often tackled in 16 to 21 days.

“It was almost the distance of a marathon per day, combined with an overall elevation gain greater than Everest.

“Struggling with the hottest days of 2025, at that pace, distance, with multiple blisters and crippling shin-splints, I was that close to calling it a day.

“It might sound cliché, but knowing mum was with me, still a rock of support and encouragement, was what kept me going.”

Over these challenges, Steve has raised an amazing £15,388.75 for BIADS, with donations flooding in from all over the world to support his cause.

Despite his already extensive fundraising achievements, Steve isn’t going to stop there. He added: “Currently, I’m gently nursing the thought of perhaps, just perhaps, tackling the LEJOG challenge Land’s End to John O’Groats.

“Three months, 1,200 miles, one rucksack.

“Whether time or circumstances will allow, who knows.

“No matter the choice, raising more funds for BIADS will without doubt be the main goal of the challenge.”
