BARNSLEY Women’s FC start their FA Cup journey on Sunday with free tickets for Barnsley College students and free travel for anyone wanting to attend the game.
The club is based in Barnsley but currently play their home games mainly at the Olympic Legacy Park in Sheffield, with occasional matches at Houghton Main. They are hoping to return to the borough of Barnsley in the future but, until then, are putting on free buses to their games in Sheffield through club sponsor Globe Holidays.
There will be a bus leaving County Way at 1pm on Sunday, returning immediately after the 2pm kick-off finishes.
Barnsley host Mancunian Unity.
Manager Craige Richardson said: “For the club, the FA Cup is a big game.
“We will watch Manchester, we’ve had someone watching them this week.
“It’s a big competition.
“The club are trying to get as many schools and as many members of the community down as they can next week.
“That would be fantastic. If we create the right atmosphere and the girls turn up, I am confident we will go through.”
The fourth tier Reds drew 2-2 at home to Hull City in the League Cup on Sunday at Houghton Main, having been 2-0 up. Ocean Rolandsen opened the scoring then Helen Lynskey added a penalty.
Richardson said: “I am really pleased. We applied ourselves really well in the first half and 2-0 was a fair reflection.
“They are tier three but teams underestimate us.
“If we apply ourselves like that for the rest of the season, we will be alright.”
Barnsley’s main aim for the season is to gain promotion from National League Division One Midlands.
They are currently third with four wins from their five games.
Meanwhile, Wombwell Town won 9-2 at home to Rotherham Town in Division Four of the Sheffield and Hallamshire League. Lucy Tindle hit a hat-trick with doubles by Ellisha Jones and Bethany Goldthorpe. The other scorers were Rebecca Hague and Nicola Hooson.
Dearne and District drew 2-2 at home to Socrates in Division Two.
