DARTON East councillor Steve Hunt has announced he will not stand at next year’s local elections and will step down from his role after seven years.
Coun Hunt has served on the council since May 2019 as a Liberal Democrat but said that due to a change in his personal circumstances he will step down next year.
The Liberal Demcorats have subsequently announced that Carl Snowden will stand in his place.
Coun Hunt said: “Next May, residents will have the opportunity to elect three councillors for the area, and each will serve a four-year term.
“Due to a change in my personal circumstances, I will not be able to give the role the total commitment that it needs beyond next May.
“I have therefore taken the difficult decision to step down.
“By the time next May comes around I will have served this community for seven years and it’s the right time to hand over.
“I am proud of what I have achieved as your councillor.
“It has been an honour and privilege to serve you.
“Until next May it will be business as usual.
” will continue to be happy to help you.
“I am delighted that Carl Snowden, who is extremely well known in the area for his community work, will be standing for the Lib Dems here.
“Carl has helped deliver some great successes including the children’s cycle track in Mapplewell Park and the annual Mapplewell Beer Festival.
“He is the driving force behind the Mapplewell and Staincross Greenspace Group.
“He deservedly won a Special Recognition Award in 2022.
“He will be an outstanding councillor and is a great addition to our team working alongside Dickie, Leyla and I”.
