The opening of the Maize Maze at Cawthorne has been delayed because two feet of rain has fallen since April, the owners say.

Farmers Sarah and Jim Williams were expecting to open the attraction this weekend but have been forced to cancel to allow the fields to dry and the maize to grow.

Sarah said: "We have a new puzzle all marked out ready, but unfortunately the maize plants have spent most of the last few months waterlogged.

"We had over eight inches of rain in April, only two in May, but this was followed by nearly another eight in June and already in July we have had over six inches and it is only the middle of the month."

The 'fun field' cannot be opened because it is too wet to get a tractor on to cut the grass but Sarah added they hoped to be up and running as soon as the weather improved.
