A GYM in Carlton has been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley in recognition of its exceptional dedication to community engagement, health promotion and charitable fundraising within Barnsley and beyond.
Jane Mills, charity development manager at Barnsley Hospital Charity said: “The Box Gym is more than just a place to get fit.
“What struck us when the team first got involved in supporting our Shine Bright (festive stars campaign) in 2024 was that they stand as a beacon of community spirit and resilience, consistently demonstrating an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those around them, gym members and the wider community.
“Their recent landmark initiative the 24-hour workout challenge exemplifies this dedication.
“Over the course of an intense and inspiring 24 hours, The Box Gym team and participants engaged in a diverse range of physical activities including rollerblading, dance-offs, and high-intensity exercise sessions.
“This event brought together a broad spectrum of the local community, uniting individuals of all ages and fitness levels in a shared goal.”
The challenge was not only a remarkable display of stamina and community unity but also an incredible fundraising success, raising a total of £6,253. These funds were equally distributed between Cancer Research UK and Barnsley Hospital Charity.
Jane continued: “The generosity of participants, donors, and supporters alike underscores the depth of community support galvanised by The Box Gym’s leadership. The fundraising activity also inspired young fundraisers Harley and Max to get involved in a Hyrox and Jumping challenge raising nearly £1,000 between them too.
“The impact of this event extends beyond financial contributions. It fosters a spirit of solidarity, hope, and collective purpose that resonates throughout Barnsley.
“Barnsley Hospital Charity expresses heartfelt gratitude, highlighting how The Box Gym’s initiative has tangibly benefited patients and staff alike, and demonstrating the power of community-driven efforts in effecting positive change.
“The Box Gym’s continuous efforts to promote health, wellbeing, and charitable causes reflect the very best of Barnsley’s values.
