MURPHY Cooper says his loan at Barnsley has been his favourite of his six away from Queens Park Rangers.

The goalkeeper 23, has been a regular between the sticks for the Reds, producing several man of the match performances. He had previously been on loan at non-league clubs Welling, Bath and Stratford before spells in League Two with Swindon and League One last season with Stevenage.

Cooper told the Chronicle: “This is the first time I have been away from home.

“This has been my favourite loan and I am really enjoying it.

“I have moved up here. My missus has moved up and she loves it as well.

“The club as a whole has a massive fanbase but it has a lovely family feel as well. I am really taking it in and enjoying myself.”

Barnsley have lost their last four matches in all competitions.

Cooper said: “For myself and the rest of the team, it’s disappointing losing four games in a row and we don’t want to do that. But I think the gaffer and staff have done a good job of making sure that, even when we were winning and flying, we didn’t get too carried away. We didn’t get too ahead of ourselves then and we’re not getting too beat up about it now. We just have to work hard and know performances and results will come.”

Murphy is known as a goalkeeper who comes out of his box and is comfortable with the ball at his feet. He was at fault for a goal against Reading but has also cleared the ball many times.

On his style of play, Cooper said: “It was something that was always expected of me growing up at QPR. They always wanted the goalie to be proactive, to sweep, they wanted to play a high line. Since I’ve come here, it was something the gaffer expected as well.

“I think it’s a strength of my game.

“I know once or twice this season I have got it wrong but I am hoping to nullify those mistakes and know when to come and when to stay. I am hoping that more shots and opportunities are prevented from me being aggressive and adopting that high starting position than the one or two I have got wrong.”
