A school groundsman is leaving his post after 40 years.

Former Darfield Foulstone pupil Martin Lazenby, 56, is retiring from the school where he also worked and which is closing ahead of its merger with Wombwell High and re-opening on a new site.

Martin, of Ridgeway Avenue, Darfield, went straight into employment after finishing at Foulstone in 1972 to look after animals on the school’s smallholding.

After this was closed, he was kept on as a groundsman looking after the school’s fields.
