A GAWBER woman is buzzing with pride after being crowned a master beekeeper - and she certainly didn’t wing it.

Val Francis’ hard work and determination has certainly paid off after being awarded the highest educational honour by the British Beekeepers’ Association.

To achieve it, Val successfully completed seven written module examinations, as well as both the General Husbandry and Advanced Husbandry practical assessments - a demanding programme that tests a beekeeper’s knowledge, skill and dedication to the craft.

Val is already an esteemed and much-loved member of the local association, serving as a former chair, and currently as vice-chair and education secretary.

She has given countless hours, patiently mentoring others and promoting excellence in the craft.

Richard Senior, chair of the Barnsley Beekeepers’ Association, said: “Val is an exceptional beekeeper and an even more exceptional person.

“She gives her time and expertise so generously, inspiring others to deepen their understanding of our local honey bees.

“Throughout the summer, she can be found at our association apiary at Wentworth Castle, guiding members through the practicalities of good bee husbandry, while also running online sessions to explore the theory behind it.
