NICKY Eaden says his under 18s are looking forward to the next round of the FA Youth Cup following a convincing 5-0 win at Macclesfield on Monday night.
The young Reds, coached by Eaden, took the lead in the 49th minute as Chrysolite Ogbu scored from close range.
Seven minutes later and Barnsley doubled their lead as Noah Town volleyed in at the back post.
Robson Woodcock scored Barnsley’s third and then Arley Kay – son of ex-Red Antony – made it 4-0 with ten minutes to play.
The scoring was rounded off in the 84th minute as Ogbu scored his second and Barnsley’s fifth with a stunning strike into the top corner.
Eaden told the Chronicle: “With cup competitions it’s just about winning and getting through to the next round.
“In the first half we weren’t great.
“We made a couple of substitutes and it upped the temp.
“We nicked a goal and it settled us down.”
He added that the competition ‘perks’ players and coaches up – and there’s always the potential to play one of the big Premier League clubs.
“The under 18s really look forward to it,” he said.
“For a club like ours you want to get to the third round and get a big team.
“We had a little bit of a taste of it a couple of years ago when we went down to Chelsea in the Premier League Cup.
“And the Youth Cup offers that opportunity.”
The draw for the second round has not been made yet but the games must be played by November 22.
