BARNSLEY Hospital Charity’s extensive support of NHS patients, staff and volunteers have earned them a Proud of Barnsley nomination.

The charity has gone the extra mile in making a difference for locals’ experiences at Barnsley Hospital.

Fundraising support from local people and businesses has allowed the charity to undertake their transformative mission.

The charity’s loyal team of volunteers have been the driving force behind their appeals.

Past notable causes include the Tiny Hearts Appeal - a campaign launched in 2014 to support the relocation and redevelopment of a brand new neonatal unit for the hospital.

Amazingly, in 2020, the Tiny Hearts Appeal hit their goal of £1m to provide state-of-the-art care for their youngest patients.

Since then, their momentum hasn’t stopped and the charity still facilitates fundraisers who want to make a difference for Barnsley babies.

Other initiatives include the Make a Memory Appeal, which raised £300,000 to transform the hospital’s care of the elderly ward.

The ward provides a homely and relaxing environment for all patients, particularly people with dementia.

The charity also goes above and beyond to support adults and those receiving end-of-life care.

This includes improvements to the Barnsley Hospital chapel, providing support during difficult times and end-of-life care packages.

So far, the charity’s initiatives have supported a wealth of people accessing healthcare services at the hospital.

Findings from the charity’s research show that this includes 66,2200 who were treated at the emergency department - and 2,882 babies born in the hospital.
