A BARNSLEY village appeared on television last week when presenters Dan Walker and Helen Skelton stopped off to walk through a local landmark.

The duo’s Channel Five series - Yorkshire Great and Small - has visited some of the county’s most-loved spots.

In its final episode, they visited Thurgoland Tunnel, a 282-metre-long structure which opened in 1845 and has since become a popular walking route on the Trans Pennine Trail.

Dan said: “Helen and I are really good friends but busy with families and work and life and the only way to spend time together is if we make a television programme, so essentially this is our plan to see each other and make some nice television.

“As soon as you start going around Yorkshire, you realise how vast a county it is and there is so much to explore.

“I love history, she loves culture, we both love to talk to people and this really shines through.”
