SILKSTONE Common Junior and Infant School will follow in the footsteps of The Beatles and Adele when they perform at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday.

It comes after the young orchestra took part in the annual Music for Youth Festival - the largest event of its kind in the UK, bringing together over 30,000 young musicians.

Following their successful performance at the Regional Festival in Huddersfield, the orchestra was invited to perform at the National Festival held at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham.

That’s when they received the news they’d been chosen as one of only two primary schools across the country to perform at the special venue.

Headteacher Simon Tabbner paid tribute to the children and the music lead at the school, Kathryn Smith.

He said: “What the children achieve at our school, in all that they do, is a credit to their commitment and efforts, as well as the hard work of the staff involved.”

He also acknowledged the invaluable support from parents.
