BARNSLEY Football Club fans raised more than £3,500 during Weston Park Cancer Charity’s takeover day.

The charity, which supports local people living with cancer, held the takeover day during Barnsley’s South Yorkshire derby against Rotherham United on October 25.

After totting up the amount raised, it was announced this week that £3,508 will be donated to the charity.

Darren Hayes, chief commercial officer at Barnsley FC said:“We know that one in two of us are likely to be diagnosed with cancer.

“At some point, it will touch all of our lives - whether that’s directly or through a friend or relative.

“That stark statistic spurs us on and drives our fundraising efforts.

“I know the other clubs in the Together at Every Step partnership feel just as motivated, which is why we decided to go even bigger with our new fundraising target.

“We’d like to thank all of the fans that have supported the partnership so far.”
