Thurnscoe library is to get a facelift after a company agreed to decorate.

The library belongs to Barnsley Council, but the board of directors of the Dearne Electronic Community Village pay a rent for the use of three rooms and they have to decorate them as part of their lease.

Brian Walker, a director, said: “It’s so hard to get funding to pay for painting and decorating. We’ve even put money in and done it ourselves before.”

But construction company Interserve, based at Castleford, has a charity scheme – and decided to give the money to the organisation, which is also a charity.

A group of usually office-bound men has offered to decorate the walls and skirting boards on September 11.

Brian added: “We’ve got all these classes and it's going to be a nicer environment to learn in.”
