WORSBROUGH Bridge face a big week as they host one of their NCEL Division One title rivals on Saturday then a Barnsley derby with Wombwell Town on Tuesday in the Sheffield Senior Cup.

The Briggers have won seven in a row and 16 of 18 in the league since losing the first two.

They are third, two points behind weekend visitors Harrogate and six off leaders Dearne and District who have played two extra matches but did not play in the league this week.

One team goes up automatically and there are four play-off places with Worsbrough currently 13 points clear of the teams outside the top five.

Worsbrough have never been above Division One after more than four decades at that level and are on course to break last season’s club record points tally of 76.

Bridge romped to a 7-1 win at Glasshoughton Welfare on Saturday.

They were two up at the break thanks to goals from Liam Flanagan and Lewis O’Connor.

Stephen Williams and Jamal Stewart got in on the act and Flanagan completed his hat-trick in the second half.

Daniel Booth rounded off the scoring late on after Glasshoughton got one back.

Manager Lee Morris said: “It was an important win as well.

“We have been off a couple of weeks, through no fault of their own, and you never know how the lads are going to perform after a break.

“It was nice to get back and get a big, emphatic win.”

It is a packed schedule ahead for Bridge but one Morris is relishing.

He added: “It’s a big month – but every month is a big month really.

“But it’s a snowball effect and we have got momentum.

“Saturday is a massive game, I don’t know what the pitch is going to be like, but we hope we’ll get everyone right behind us.

“They beat us early in the season but we are a lot different to that team now.

“We go into it with a lot of confidence and I dare say that they will too.”

A brace from Luca Cancello had Athersley Rec ahead at Brigg Town on Saturday but they eventually fell to a 4-2 loss.
