Pete Goodlad, of Ollerton Road, Athersley North, has been put forward in the Sporting Achievement category by fellow club co-founder, Alan Richardson.
The duo met in 1979 when Alan, of Sherwood Street, Barnsley, was approached by Pete, 54, in the Acorn pub at Athersley.
"He asked if I would be interested in forming a junior football club to play in the newly formed Barnsley Under 13s' league.
"Without hesitation I said, 'yes', and within a week we were holding trials to get our first group of players together for the new season under the name Athersley North Juniors.
"We are both people, who if we are doing something, put our total commitment into it and we wanted to create a football club and give Athersley something to be proud of."
Due to work commitments Alan, 58, resigned as secretary and treasurer of the club in 1983 and handed control to Peter, along with the committee. In 1985 and with the move into senior football, the club assigned itself to the newly-built Athersley North sports facility and the club was renamed Athersley Recreation FC.
Alan said Pete, along with other directors, has given 33 years service to the club, devoting his time into making Athersley Recreation FC the 'outstanding club' it is today.
"The main driving force behind the club and its success is largely due to Pete whose selfless time, energy and commitment is no better illustrated than the fact he had an extension built on to his house, at his own expense, which is solely a wash house for his wife Julie to clean all the kits for the club. He told Julie it was her Christmas present.
"I think it is only fair to recognise the support of Julie and the rest of Pete's family who also get involved in helping any way they can.
"Thirty-three years is a long time for anyone to be associated with a club, but when you have built it from scratch with your own hard work and all voluntary I would think that deserves recognition.
"Athersley Recreation FC is now fast approaching having won 70 trophies in their 33 years' existence, indeed this past season having won six trophies in total which included a clean sweep in the Sunday League winning all four major trophies."
