A CHANGE to parish council election cycles was rubber-stamped at a meeting last week.

Barnsley Council recently approved plans to hold an all-out election every four years, rather than one each three years before a free year.

Proposals were then put forward to each parish council to put their election schedule in line with the council.

All 15 parish councils responded positively to the plans and it was therefore rubber-stamped at a Full Council meeting yesterday.

Hannah Kitching, the Mayor of Penistone, said: “It was the only decision that Penistone Town Council and others could possibly make.

“They have very small budgets and to cover the elections costs would be a burden too great.”
