BARNSLEY were forced to settle for a point after Callum Connolly’s late strike rescued a point for Stockport County.

It looked like the impressive Reds were going to make it three wins on the spin after Vimal Yoganathan gave them the lead midway through the first half.

The visitors defended resolutely throughout the second half and looked like they would be rewarded with all three points.

But they were cruelly pegged back with a minute to go when Connolly volleyed home.

Jayden Fevrier hammered an effort wide in the opening minutes as the Barnsley defence were opened up down the right.

Benony Andresson drilled a first-time effort over on 11 minutes, before Kyle Wootton headed over as County kept up the pressure.

Davis Keillor-Dunn dragged a shot wide from 20 yards as Barnsley began to grow into the game.

The forward then saw another effort deflected over after another good move by the visitors.

And they got their reward when Yoganathan found space inside the box to slot home Reyes Clearly’s pass on 27 minutes to make it two goals in the last two away games.

Nathan Lowe fired over the bar from a narrow angle as County looked for a response.

Murphy Cooper saved a deflected shot from Odin Bailey just before the hour mark as Barnsley continued to keep Stockport quiet.

Jack Diamond headed straight at the keeper with six minutes of the contest to go.

David McGoldrick came on with three minutes to go to make his 650th career appearance.

But, with Barnsley looking like they would comfortably cling on for another important win, Connelly volleyed home Jack Hunt’s cross with a minute remaining.
