BARNSLEY head coach Conor Hourihane says it's 'refreshing' working with his current group of players.

The Reds are currently tenth in the League One table, though they have a number of games in hand over the teams around them.

After Saturday's 1-1 draw with Stockport County, Hourihane said his side need to 'keep fighting'.

He added: "I just think from the summer they've all worked one bought into what we’re doing.

"There's a disappointed dressing room in there.

"I think they're performing at a really good level and I’d back them against any team at the moment that they're in.

"They need to keep working, keep fighting and keep moving in the right direction.

"It's going to be a busy schedule from the next league game until after Christmas and we all have to play our part to get the points return that we want."

He added that the team are 'in a good moment' and that his players are a 'breath of fresh air'.

"I know we’ll score goals," he said.

"We’ve always done it really in large parts whilst I've been in charge.

"It’s such a breath of fresh air to be working with these guys, especially the younger lads at the top end of the pitch.

"They take on the information and just go and play.

"They have no ego about them, they want to do well and want to improve.

"It's a delight.

"It feels like we're in a good moment.

"We suffered a little bit with late goals maybe seven or eight games ago.

"We’ve worked so hard with and without the ball.

"We've worked on different circumstances late on in games.

"We're disappointed in terms of the late goal, but I feel the last three or four games that we're moving in the right direction for sure."
