BARNSLEY North MP Dan Jarvis paid a visit to a local primary school on Friday.

The visit to Athersley North Primary School was a part of the celebrations for UK Parliament Week which encourages children across the UK to learn more about Parliament.

During his visit, Dan met year five and six pupils and answered their questions on a range of topics, including what it was like to be an MP, how Parliament works, and the importance of democratic participation. The pupils shared their future career aspirations and engaged in a lively debate on whether smoking should be banned.

Dan said: “I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been to Athersley North Primary School over the years, but I always leave impressed.

“My recent visit during UK Parliament Week was no exception.

The kids were brilliant - full of energy, asking smart questions and dreaming big about what they want to do when they grow up.

“They’re a real credit to their teachers and families.

They gave me some homework too - a stack of letters.
